Do you have wireless internet service?
Currently there are no plans of offering mobile wireless access. As technologies and demands change, it could be offered at a later date. Wireless routers will work on our service though.

Do you network computers?
No, we will connect the first computer and the rest is the customers responsibility.

Do I have to have a phone line for Murray Electric System's internet service?
No, Murray Electric System's internet service is high-speed cable modem service, which requires a cable coax connection only. You may talk on your phone and work on the Internet all at once.

What is an Ethernet Card?
An Ethernet card (or network card) allows your computer to connect to our cable modem service by an Ethernet cable.

How many characters are needed on email? Your log in must be between 3 to 32 lower-case characters, alpha numeric only, and start with a letter. Your password must be between 4 to 16 upper or lower case (case sensitive) alphanumeric characters or an underscore.

Can I keep my hotmail/yahoo email service?
Yes, those are free accounts that are available to anyone that has access to the internet.

Can I have more than 1 computer?
Yes, you may have as many computers as you would like, but they will have to be networked together with a router. Murray Electric System will only connect the first computer; the networking of any additional computer will be the customer’s responsibility.

Can I have Murray Electric System's internet service without having MES cable?
Yes, but there will be an additional monthly fee of $10 if you do not subscribe to MES cable.

Do I need to have my computer available at the time of installation?
Yes, your computer needs to be connected and active in the location you wish to use it at the time of installation. This is necessary for Murray Electric System to verify that the service is working properly before we leave the installation.

What is the minimum operating system requirement for Murray Electric System internet service?
Windows 98 or above.

Can I use a Macintosh on Murray Electric System internet service?
Yes.

How can I access the internet using your system when I am traveling?
Currently access to Murray Electric broadband service is limited your “home” location. To have access while traveling, arrangements would need to be made with an alternate service provider.

How can I access my e-mail while traveling or away from my computer?
You can access your e-mail account from any computer with internet access by going to our web page, www.murray-ky.net. At the bottom right of the page, there is a “Check Your E-mail” section. Enter your username (the part of your e-mail before the "@") and password. Any e-mail not downloaded to your primary computer will be available for viewing. You may also send messages using this webmail service.

What are my incoming and outgoing mail servers?
The incoming mail server is: pop.murray-ky.net. The outgoing mail server is: smtp.murray-ky.net

You provide the EmScan service for scanning e-mails for viruses. Do I need more virus protection than that?
As part of an overall system protection plan, you should also routinely run a scan for viruses on your computer. This ensures that your computer is not infected by a virus that you may have downloaded or brought in by removable media. EmScan only scans files that are attached to e-mails.

Can I keep my AOL service?
While it is not necessary to keep your AOL service for internet access (unless you are traveling), you can run AOL as a “piggyback” service over your MES broadband connection. This will allow you to access AOL and its services at a much faster speed than through its traditional dial-up connection.

How do I connect multiple computers to the internet?
In order to connect more than one computer to our system, you must install a router. This device allows several devices to access the internet simultaneously.

Do you offer e-mail addresses ending with something other than murray-ky.net? I don’t want some people to know where I live.
Murray-ky.net is the only extension that we offer. If you need an “anonymous” address, you will need to set up an account with free e-mail providers such as g-mail, yahoo or MSN.

Do you offer content filtering?
We do not filter any content to our subscribers. If you would like to have a filter, there are several companies that sell filtering software or services.

How can I change my password?
From our home page, click on the “Internet/Email Control Panel”, log in and you will be given several options of account changes that may be made.
